Hotels and motels in Estonia will soon get stars according to the international system
Since the 2nd of May, a new ranking system Hotelstars Union will be applied to the hotels and motels which allows the Estonian accommodation institutions to compare themselves better to the European hotels and insures the confidence of tourists in the quality.
On Friday, Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Juhan Parts signed an order by which he confirmed the new ranking requirements or star system to the hotels and motels. The stars will be granted by the Estonian Hotel and Restaurant Association in the next five years. Its task is to introduce the system of Hotelstars Union also in Estonia.
“When developing the tourism services, it is important to emphasize the enhancement of quality and increase of credibility among the tourists in order to improve the potential of our tourism sector at foreign markets,” Parts commented. “The new ranking system will provide confidence that for example, a four-star hotel in Tallinn is equal to a four-star hotel in Berlin and vice versa.” The main differences of the new system from the system applied in Estonia today are the increased attention to the quality of services and bigger flexibility.
Now there are 28 rank hotels in Estonia. Four of them have five, ten have four, 13 have three and two have two stars. The purpose of the Estonian Hotel and Restaurant Association is the doubling of the number of rank hotels in the next five years.
The ranking system Hotelstars Union developed under the conduction of the European Hotel and Restaurant Association is today applied in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Czechia, Netherlands and Sweden. Also Latvia and Lithuania plan to switch to the new ranking system. Already 17 000 in seven countries have been classified according to the European uniform ranking system.
